*Do you feel that?*

Comfortably nestled in a dreamberry bush, Cutter opted not to move. After careful consideration, he decided that he did not feel that. Or at least, that he had no idea of what Skywise was speaking.

*Feel what?*

Skywise didn’t answer immediately. When he ignored it, it buzzed, and when he tried to find it, it fled to an obscure corner of his mind. He couldn’t corner it, and he couldn’t remember why it was so familiar.

Curious, he decided it wasn’t important.

*Nothing. Just-*

It went unthought as Thrush invaded the dreamberry bushes, rustling as she went.

Unthought, unspoken but not forgotten, the strange and familiar feeling prowled about his head and tickled his heart. It danced up his spine once, when he was close, and he tripped over a stray cub in an effort to find it.

It gnawed at him. He couldn’t sleep, and he spent his days thinking on it. This led to great amusement, sympathy, and worry on Cutter’s behalf. He tried to help, but found it most difficult.

"Is it Recognition?" he asked at last. Skywise glared.

-*-

The sensation, Skywise found, was sometimes near and sometimes far. He followed it out of the Palace, into the forest and found it near, until he went too far. Following it back, he found Cutter.

"One of Thrush’s cubs," he explained, "Keeps wandering off."

The cub had gotten caught in a ditch, and was yipping and squirming, even in the comfort of the chieftain’s arms. Skywise empathized, feeling lost and confused.

Cutter figured it out first, and Skywise named her Dreamberry.
