She was there when he returned, unexpectedly appearing in Cecil’s throne room. She was close enough to see the Paladin-King’s surprise, his delight at seeing his best friend again; close enough, to hear the softness of his voice as he opened his arms and his heart to greet the errant dragoon.

For a brief moment, it might have seemed that Kain had never left Baron’s forces, that the world had never been endangered.

But she was close enough to see the betrayal... the shock on Cecil’s face, and the blood on Kain’s knife. She was there to see it all.
