"I can’t see how they live without trees," Rydia grumbled. The Underworld had plants – small grasses and shrubs and things – but they were scraggly and not a substitute for the lush forests above ground. Behind her, Kain shrugged.
"Have you ever been in love?"
She didn’t see the point in the question. "I care about people."
"But that’s not the same, is it?"
"I don’t know," she begrudgingly admitted. "Is it?"
"You never can tell until you’ve noticed the difference."
They continued in silence. She thought
on it, for it must have been possible to show the Underworlders
the difference.
