He hadn’t had to look away from someone in a while. Not since... a while.

The Esper woman was clean and innocent. Naïve, he might have said. There was something about her that troubled him – her eyes, he figured, or the elegance with which she moved. She was unnatural. He would have left it at that, except...

She reminded him of a life, thrice removed from the manner in which he now lived. She reminded him of a man, whose smile and grace promised great secrets. She reminded him of the past he buried.

She reminded him of his father.
